Tell me, have any of you tried any of the natural induction methods?
Evening Primrose Oil?
Castor Oil - bleagh
Sex
Acupuncture/Acupressure
Massage/Reflexology
Spicy food
Eggplant Parmigan
I went to the midwife on Friday, she mentioned the dreaded *I* word - Induction. Seems the insulin dose puts me in the red flag alert box and they don't want me to go past my due date.
A risk of stillbirth - I can't even type that without feeling ill - accompanies insulin dependent GD so I can't fuck around with this. I really really really want to avoid pitocin induction so I need to urge this babe to come sooner than August 17th if I have any hope of a VBAC.
There's a list of natural induction methods here.
There's no way in hell I'm trying castor oil, I had reflexology last week and will try acupuncture tomorrow. Share your stories with me...please?

I tried sex, but it didn't work. Several people have told me that walking your ass off works. Maybe eat a spicy meal then walk?
I know you have been reading my blog, but I wanted to comment a little aabout my experiences. As you remember, I went 12 days overdue with my daughter who was born 2 weeks ago. I also had a VBAC so I didn't want to be chemically induced either.
Reflexology did not work for me. However, it did feel good and I have heard that relaxation helps move labor along.
Whenever I would take long walks I would get strong contractions, but they would die out about an hour after I was finished walking. The same thing happened with nipple stimulation with a breast pump for me.
I have to say that I didn't even try the evening primrose oil until I was 1 week overdue. I took one capsule orally every morning and tried to apply the liquid on or near my cervix at night. I think that might have helped soften my cervix, but there's no certainty with that.
I have heard that accupuncture is very effective, but I couldn't find one that would do it for me without being in a hospital with my doctor's consent. Of course, my doctor AND hospital would not consent.
Sex always seemed to work to get something going. I always had false labor the next morning. I'm sure this did SOMETHING to help ripen my cervix.
Okay, the dreaded castor oil....I too said I would NEVER in a million years try the stuff. Well, I was 11 days overdue and VERY close to being induced so I decided to give it a try. Actually, I am going to write about it on my blog soon, but I'll tell you about it here. I didn't want to be miserable because that is all I hear about with castor oil, so I took less than people normally take. Instead of taking 2oz and then 2oz 4 hour later, I only took one dose of 1oz.
I don't know if it was just that my body was ready to give birth and needed a kickstart or what, but I went into labor 8 hours later. All my stomach cramps were finished by that point, so my labor we not any more uncomfortable than it would have been without the castor oil. Just something to think about....
Rm I'll leave the sex to you thanks, I'm way too big and uncomfortable to even contemplate it.
Kendra, thanks, I'd forgotten about nipple stim.
I had baby #2 at a birthing centre that promotes non-medical intervention. When I was nearing my due date the midwives recommended deep squats, to promote the movement of the baby in the right direction.
Having a toddler, I already spent a lot of time sitting at kid level, so squatting was both exercise and communication.
Who knows if it worked, but #2 was born without being induced and the squatting combined with Chinese Meridian Therapy stretches - labour was a breeze, I almost didn't make it to the birthing centre!
